Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data K-NEX collects through this website and through our desktop app NexMove, why, and what rights you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
Who we are
K-NEX is run by Tim Kim, trading as K-NEX, in the United Kingdom. Tim Kim is the data controller for personal data collected through k-nex.com and through our apps. You can reach us at hello@k-nex.com.
What we collect
| WHEN | WHAT | WHY | LEGAL BASIS |
|---|---|---|---|
| You join early access | Your email address | To tell you when our products launch | Your consent |
| You send a message | Your name (optional), email address, message and any screenshots you attach | To reply to you | Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries |
| You buy NexMove | From Lemon Squeezy, our reseller: your name, email address, country, what you bought, the price and tax paid, and your licence key. We do not see your card details. | To give you your licence, help you with it, handle refunds and keep the accounting records the law requires | To perform our contract with you, and to meet our legal obligations (tax records) |
| You enter your licence key in NexMove, and each time you start copying after that | Sent to Lemon Squeezy, not to K-NEX: your licence key, and when you first enter it, a label with the NexMove version, operating system and a short code made from the ID of the account you copy from (your Dropbox account ID, or your OneDrive’s drive ID). The code is a one-way hash: it cannot be turned back into your account ID, name or email. | To check that the key is valid and has not been refunded, to count the computers it is used on, and to keep one licence to one account you copy from | To perform our contract with you, and our legitimate interest in preventing misuse of licences |
| You press “Send report” or “Get help” in NexMove | The report you see before sending: app and Windows version, the step that went wrong, the error message, recent app log lines (which can include file and folder names unless you choose to hide them), and your email address and message if you add them | To find and fix the problem and, if you gave your email, to reply | Our legitimate interest in supporting our product |
| You visit the site | Technical data such as your IP address and browser type, logged by our hosting and font providers | To deliver and secure the website | Our legitimate interest in running the site |
We do not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. We do not sell your data or use it for profiling.
Who processes your data for us
- Google (Google LLC: Apps Script, Drive and Sheets) receives the forms on this site and the reports you send from NexMove, stores any screenshots and reports, and keeps our list of sign-ups and messages.
- Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC, part of Stripe) sells NexMove to you as our reseller and Merchant of Record, and issues and checks licence keys. For the payment details it collects at checkout, Lemon Squeezy is responsible under its own Privacy Policy.
- GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.) hosts this website.
- Google Fonts (Google LLC) serves the typefaces this site uses.
- Our email provider stores the messages we receive and send.
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards permitted by UK data protection law, such as the UK–US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Early access emails: until you unsubscribe, or 12 months after the product you signed up for launches, whichever comes first.
- Messages and screenshots: up to 24 months after our last exchange, then deleted.
- Purchase records: six years from the end of the tax year of the sale, as UK tax law requires, then deleted.
- NexMove reports and help requests: up to 24 months after we receive them or after our last exchange about them, then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- correct it if it is wrong
- delete it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- send it to you or another organisation in a portable format
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us or using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@k-nex.com. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.
NexMove (desktop app)
NexMove copies your files from Dropbox to Google Drive, from Dropbox to OneDrive, or from OneDrive to Google Drive. It runs entirely on your own Windows computer. Your files travel from where they are now to your computer and on to where they are going; they never pass through, and are never stored on, K-NEX servers.
Signing in to Dropbox, OneDrive and Google
You sign in on Dropbox’s, Microsoft’s and Google’s own web pages, and only to the two services in the move you picked. K-NEX never sees your passwords. After you sign in, each service gives NexMove an access token, which is saved only on your computer, in NexMove’s settings folder. It is never sent to K-NEX.
- Dropbox: NexMove reads your files and folders so it can copy them. It does not change, move or delete anything in your Dropbox.
- Google Drive: NexMove asks only for access to files it creates itself (the
drive.filepermission). It creates a folder called “From Dropbox” or “From OneDrive”, copies your files into it and checks them afterwards. It cannot see or change any other files in your Google Drive. - OneDrive: Microsoft has no permission as narrow as Google’s, so NexMove asks for access to your OneDrive files. Right after you sign in, it asks Microsoft which OneDrive belongs to your account (the drive’s ID and type) so it uses the right one. When you copy from OneDrive, NexMove reads your files and folders and does not change, move or delete anything; it cannot open your Personal Vault and skips it. When you copy to OneDrive, it creates a folder called “From Dropbox”, copies your files into it and checks them, and does not change or delete your other files.
What stays on your computer
NexMove keeps a log of what it copied and any errors, and remembers which folders you chose, so it can carry on where it stopped. It also keeps your licence key and how much of the free test copy you have used. These stay on your computer. NexMove has no analytics or tracking and does not send usage data to K-NEX.
When something leaves your computer
If you have a licence, NexMove asks Dropbox for your account ID, or Microsoft for your OneDrive’s drive ID, and keeps a short one-way code made from it on your computer, so the licence stays with one account you copy from. When you enter a licence key, NexMove sends the key and a label with its version, operating system and that code to Lemon Squeezy. Each time you start copying, it sends the key again to check it still works. Nothing else about you or your files is sent.
Something is sent to K-NEX only when you press “Send report” or “Get help”. Before anything is sent, NexMove shows you exactly what will be sent. Sign-in tokens are always removed, you can choose to hide file and folder names, and the contents of your files are never sent. See the table above for what a report contains and how long we keep it.
Google user data
NexMove’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. NexMove uses Google Drive access only to copy your files into your own Google Drive and to check that they arrived. That data stays on your computer and in your Google Drive. It is not transferred to K-NEX or anyone else, not used for advertising, and not read by people.
Removing NexMove’s access
Uninstalling NexMove deletes the app, but you can also remove its access at any time:
- Google: myaccount.google.com/permissions
- Dropbox: dropbox.com/account/connected_apps
- Microsoft (OneDrive): account.live.com/consent/Manage
Files NexMove copied stay in your Google Drive or OneDrive until you delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will tell early-access members by email.
